What is PolyGel? Everything You Need to Know About Polygel Nails
Posted by Kim Phan -
If you’ve been keeping an eye on nail trends lately, you’ve probably heard about Polygel nails — the nail enhancement that’s taking salons (and social media) by storm. Polygel combines the best qualities of acrylic nails and hard gel nails into one easy-to-use formula, making it a favorite for both nail techs and DIY nail lovers.
In this guide, we’ll break down what Polygel is, why it’s so popular, how it’s applied, and tips for removing it safely.
What is Polygel?
Polygel is a hybrid nail product made with acrylic powder for strength and durability and gel resin for flexibility and a smooth texture. The formula comes in a tube with a thick, toothpaste-like consistency that doesn’t self-level — meaning it must be shaped manually before curing.
Unlike working with acrylic nails, Polygel doesn’t require harsh-smelling monomer. Instead, you’ll use an alcohol-based liquid called Slip Solution (or even 70%–100% isopropyl alcohol) to help your brush glide smoothly over the product. This makes the application odor-free and gentler on nails and skin.
